Start With Why, by Simon Sinek, is very BUILT TO LEAD. Many companies get their stories bass ackwards by starting with “WHAT” instead of “WHY,” shorthand for the core purpose of the enterprise. The author maintains that people buy your why, and if they like your why, only then do they buy your what. |

"HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. When it comes to motivation, Dan Pink has found there's a gap between what science knows and what business does. In his new book Drive he shows how our current business operating system--which is built around carrot-and-stick motivators--doesn't work and often does harm. We need an upgrade, and science shows the way. This new approach has three essential elements--(1) Autonomy--the desire to direct our own lives; (2) Mastery--the urge to get better and better at something that matters; and (3) Purpose--the yearning to do what we do in the service of something larger than ourselves. |

"Loyalty, schmoyalty. Let's go for COMMITMENT! That's what owners have--they're committed to the enterprise and its success. How do you make customers and employees act like that? This can happen to customers if employees are committed to them. That can only happen if leaders are committed to employees as owners, and making it happen. The Ownership Quotient is written by Jim Heskett, who co-authored the classic Service Profit Chain in the 1990s. |

It's been said "if you don't know where you're going, any road will take you there." Well, Roy Spence emphasizes that "if you don't know who you are and what you stand for, any fad, trend, crisis, or character will distract you." This book is a reference guide to leaders who wish to create sustained performance improvement in themselves and their teams. |

Data on what REALLY drives extraordinary performance. It's not "talent" and it's not simply "hard work." It's "deliberate practice" in your challenge zone--that place where you feel clumsy, awkward and incompetent just outside your comfort zone, best guided by an experienced mentor and coach. That's why there are so few masters and so many "ordinary people." If you intend to be excellent in something in this life, read this book. |

His goal is to answer two questions that are of interest to just about anyone, from CEOs to firefighters: How does the human mind make decisions? And how can we make those decisions better? |

What we discovered instead about all of us humans is far more interesting. Read this one a chapter at a time; it will make you want to get off the couch and go for a run! |
